Getting to know Ashor!

Ashor2.jpg
The first blog post will be a question and answer session with Ashor Sworesho so you can get to know your local chiropractor better!

Question:

What is your name and tell us something about you!

Answer:

Shlama! My name is Ashor Sworesho and I recently was blessed enough to take over form Dr. Odette Tunks earlier in the summer. A little about me, I was born on April 4th 1988 in Nohadra in Iraq. When I was three, my family moved to Malta and we called it home for about five years until the door was opened to us to start a new life in Canada on July 31st 1997. I have called Hamilton home since then, attending Regina Mundi School, followed by St. Thomas More and finally attaining my Bachelors of Science of Kinesiology with Honours from McMaster University. During my last year of university I was inspired to pursue a career in chiropractic after seeing Dr. Nenos Damerchie in his clinic. Fast forward four years at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and I am living my dream of providing chiropractic care to the great people of Hamilton.

Question:

That was a much longer answer than I expected, but I’m definitely getting to know you better. Next question, how do you think you can help people with their health?

Answer:

At the moment patients will receive chiropractic care along with other lifestyle recommendations. Chiropractors spend 8 years of post secondary education to be able to attain a Doctor’s of Chiropractic degree. This helps chiropractors provide effective and safe care for their patients. The main treatment chiropractors perform is the chiropractic adjustment which helps realign the joints of the spine and provide relief to the tight muscles in the area. Similarly, with proper moving joints, the nerves coming out of the spinal cord can work optimally so our whole bodies – which are controlled by these nerves – can also work optimally!

Question:

What do you think the biggest problem is facing Hamiltonians with respect to their health?

Answer:

I believe the biggest threat to the health of Hamiltonians is the the lack of emphasis placed on being proactive with respect to our health. Everyone should know the saying that “one ounce of prevention is worth one pound of cure”. We should know this idiom and live by it as well. We should all be aware that it is easier to walk an extra 15 minutes a day to decrease our chances of heart disease rather than try to fight it after being diagnosed with a heart condition. It is easier to not eat an extra 500 calories, rather than trying to burn it at the gym later and it is easier to prevent nervous and musculoskeletal disorder through chiropractic care than cure them after we pull our back or have shooting pains down our hands and legs.

Question:

Let’s step back from Hamilton Chiropractic and ask about your personal life. What do you do when you aren’t working here?

Answer:

I am currently involved in many endeavors and I hope I will have the strength to continue being part of other groups and activities outside of Hamilton Chiropractic. I am currently the site supervisor at St. Mari’s Assyrian Culture School where we educate over 115 students about the Assyrian culture and Syriac language. In addition, I am part of the Canadian Forces reserves in 31 Signals Regiment at the John W. Foote Armouries on James South in Hamilton. Finally, I am also involved with the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Student Union. ACSSU is a group which strives to help Assyrians in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area achieve academic excellence. In addition, ACSSU holds many social, educational and charitable events for the Assyrian community in the GTHA.

Oh ya, how can I forget, another thing I love to do outside the clinic is spend time with my ever growing family which includes Wilson and Youbert, my nephews aged 18 and 12 months respectively!

Question:

I believe anyone who reads this will get to know you just a little bit better, is there anything else you would like to add?

Answer:

I just want to again thank Dr. Odette Tunks for giving me this privilege and believing in me to deliver optimal chiropractic care to her patients. I am very blessed to be able to start living my dream and I want to be the go to guy for chiropractic care in Hamilton. If anyone ever wants to drop by for some advice or to chat, not just about chiropractic care, the office door is always open…well it’s always open during our business hours, I can’t guarantee I will be here at 2am on a Thursday.

Thank you!
